Zzyzx Road by Harold Brown

IMG_4372-Ti.jpg

In my travels I see some strange things from time to time, and Zzyzx Road is one of those. First, what's with the name? Second, many people seem to agree, as evident from the bullet holes in the sign. I am not a big Wikipedia fan, but for a road it will do. According to Wikipedia, Zzyzx Road is a 4.5-mile long, part paved and part dirt, rural collector road in the Mojave Desert. I guess the idea is the word is the final one in the English dictionary.Anyway a picture seemed to be in order, and I think it says it all.

Pegasus Farm by Harold Brown

Pegasus Farm

Going off topic for this post, but it is well worth it. Every spring for the past 9 years I have joined my friends from work to donate a "day of caring" for Pegasus Farm in Hartville, Ohio. The mission of Pegasus Farm is to "maximize the potential of persons with disabilities to become independent, well-rounded, self-confident individuals by providing equine activities along with recreational, social and vocational support". It serves about 800 individuals with disabilities annually. Pegasus Farm has been a premier therapeutic riding center in Northeast Ohio since 1985. Research shows that horseback riding has exceptional physical and psychological benefits which enable riders with disabilities to achieve control and mobility they may not otherwise experience.

Every year we take up arms against weeds, peeling paint, dirty horse stalls and barns, and over grown trees and shrubs along the riding paths. Another team mulches the gardens and sometimes there is a repair or two. You can imagine how much work there is to be done around a farm where horses are stabled and fed, added to that the schedule of helping all of the children and adults that make use of the facility.

"With the help of some very special horses and dedicated volunteers and staff, Pegasus Farm program participants become well-rounded, self-confident individuals."

If you have never volunteered a day of your time to help someone or group of people you should consider it. Nothing like helping out those people who are truly in need.

Corvette Up Close Photos by Harold Brown

Corvette Up Close Photos

The Corvette has been America's favorite sports car for 60 years, and these Corvette photos are up close and personal.  No long or medium shots here. Just a few close-up shots I have taken over the years of the Chevy Corvette. Each one is truly a work of art and sometimes the finer things are overlooked, until you take the time to see each car for what it is. I took these shots at local car shows. I hope you enjoy them. If you like the pictures leave a comment or click the thumbs up. Registration is not required.

I have been considering not talking any pictures this year of the Corvette since I have so many, but once in a while you see a car that is just so nice you have to get a few shots. However, if I can stick to my plan I will start getting more close ups and a twist on the usual picture.

Waiting for my first car show this year, the camera is ready!

Ferrari Up Close

There is something about Ferrari photos that grabs everyone's attention, and these Ferrari photos are up close and personal. All were taken with my Nikon D90. No long or medium shots here. Just a few close-up shots I have taken over the years of the Ferrari. Each one is truly a work of art and sometimes the finer things are overlooked, until you take the time to see each car for what it is. I took these shots at local Ferrari car shows in conjunction with the Ohio Chapter of the Ferrari Club of America. A local Ferrari car show isn't something you find everyday, fortunately for me the local vineyard sponsors the car show each fall. I hope you enjoy them. I hope that 2013 brings some new cars at the local shows. This year I plan of doing more pictures of fewer cars. So, yep I plan on being a little more picking with my picture taking.

Surat Gujarat India by Harold Brown

Surat Gujarat India

In 2010 my wife and I visited her ancestral home in Gujarat, India. We had traveled their with her sister's family to visit friends and family. One day we decided to drive the ladies to Surat, and spend the day their shopping at some of the stores. If you have never been to India you don't know what you are missing. I enjoy travel, and seeing new things and experiencing life in other areas of the world. So a trip to India was fantastic. If you have not been there the below short 51 second video was filmed through the wind screen of the car with my Nikon D90.  Note that center lanes and driving rules and laws only semi apply in India, but it is getting better I hear.

G3 Fashions was the ladies store of choice so we headed there. In the below video, the ladies shop for sarees. Note the number of saris they are looking at and the patience of the clerks. This is only 36 seconds of a very long process, but success, they did find what they were looking for.

In India, sarees are worn by ladies at weddings, festivals, parties & social occasions.

After a long day of shopping we headed to shopping beneath the main roads reminiscent of Underground Atlanta. Everything imaginable could be found in the area, it was cramped and motor cycles wound their way around display tables and people. Something you would not see here in the US.

I shot the below video on my D90 through the windshield of our car as we waited on Janti and Aruna to finish a last minute purchase (the shopping area we were at was below the street level of this video).

There are some logos and emblems that are true works of art and sometimes we just need to step up close and take a look! It is April in Ohio and soon it will be time for the car shows. Hopefully my friends Rich and Tom are ready to get out this summer and start checking out what new cars turn up at the shows.
