Buddy Rich in Concert at Idora Park, Youngstown, Ohio
This is one of those rare gems that makes transferring Super 8 film to video worth the time and effort. Buddy Rich in concert filmed on Super 8 Sound film. Other than memories, all that is left of that night to be seen or heard is this 16 minute film. This was filmed by Ed Ellis in 1976 at Idora Park in Youngstown, Ohio.
The film was always tinted red from the indoor lights, and after color correction, just seeing it with some other color than red was great. This is a work in process and a real challenge.
The camera was set to film at 24fps but at 24fps capture it runs too fast and at 20fps it runs too slow. I have three versions of the film (20fps, 22fps & 24fps). I have a lot of work to do including working with the sound track. The final version will be wide screen and I have to do something about some of the wild camera movements. In the mean time I hope you enjoy this film in its more "natural" state.
It took three steps to bring the color into a more natural state along with a small increase in saturation and contrast. Then I de-noised the image and added some sharpness. The biggest problem is the original is filmed in very low light and that makes for a difficult time making improvements. Everything you do takes a little away from the image, and in this case the image wasn't that good to begin with.
